Getting around St Andrews with ease
St Andrews is an ancient town, and that means cobbles, kerbs and the odd steep wynd. With a little local knowledge it's very manageable. Here's our honest guide to access — for wheelchair users, those with limited mobility, and anyone travelling with a pram.

Ancient streets, modern thinking.
We get asked about access constantly, and we'd rather give you the honest picture than a glossy one. The medieval core has its challenges, but they're easily worked around once you know where the smooth routes and level entrances are.
This is the guide we wish existed when our own passengers first asked us how to manage the town.
The honest truth about the cobbles
Parts of the historic core — Market Street, South Street and the wynds between them — have cobbled and uneven surfaces that can be jarring in a wheelchair or with a walking aid. The good news is that the main pavements are largely smooth and dropped kerbs are common at the principal crossings.
If a smooth route matters to you, we know which streets to favour and which to avoid, and we can drop you at the most level access point for wherever you're headed.
Blue-badge parking
Blue-badge holders can use designated disabled bays across town and benefit from concessions in the council pay-and-display areas. The bays near the Cathedral, by the Byre Theatre and along the main streets are the most useful for reaching the centre.
Because the most central bays are limited and fill quickly in peak season, a door-to-door transfer is often the least stressful option — we drop you exactly where you need to be.
Beach and seafront access
West Sands has the best access of the beaches: there's parking right alongside, level esplanade sections and ramps in places, so you can enjoy the sea air without tackling soft sand or steps. The Castle and Cathedral areas have level approaches from the street, though the ruins themselves include grass and uneven ground.
East Sands is reachable but involves more of a slope down from the harbour area.
Step-free attractions and our vehicles
The Wardlaw Museum, British Golf Museum and most modern cafes and restaurants offer step-free access. Some historic pubs and shops have a single entrance step — it's always worth a quick call ahead.
Our vehicles are chosen for easy entry, and we're happy to take folding wheelchairs and mobility aids. If you have specific requirements, tell us when you book and we'll make sure the right car and the right driver are sent.
Tell us what you need.
The simplest way to enjoy St Andrews without worrying about cobbles, kerbs or parking is to let us take you door to door. Share your requirements when you book and we'll match the right vehicle and a driver who'll help.
